Pribram Mining Museum

The Mining Open-air Museum in Brezove Hory consisting of the complexes of three mines (Sevcinsky, Vojtech and Anna), offers you an extraordinary experience. You will find yourself taken back to beyond the last century and to places where brave miners spent most of their busy working days. For instance, you will take a mine train and pass through the ‘adit’ into a mining passageway quite among to the deepest in Central Europe.

Exhibitions located in what were formerly operational and administrative buildings feature a rich mining history of this area, where silver, uranium and other ores were extracted. There are many attractions and unique technical monuments to be seen by daylight too – the mine-shaft building from 1870, the tower from 1879, or a miner’s cottage depicting the lifestyle of a mining family at the turn of the 19th and 20th century – to name but a few of the places and experiences that await you in the open-air museum.

The Sevcin Mine
Here you can see the “Traditional crafts and industries in the Pribram area” exhibition. You can also visit the permanent exhibition “Mining and Metallurgy Buildings featured in Period Photographs”. The exhibition features information about the social, economic and cultural developments in the area from the Middle Ages until the 20th century.

The Anna Mine
The Anna Mine was opened in 1789. You can see here an exhibition dealing with mining and the processing of minerals. You can enter the underground and take a little mining train along the 260 m (yard)-long Prokop Shaft. You can visit here the engine room and unique water wheel chamber.

The Vojtech Mine
The Vojtech Mine was opened in 1779. The registry building of the Vojtech Mine houses temporary thematic exhibitions. You have the opportunity to walk through the 330 m (1100 feet) long underground historic Water shaft (“Anna”) from the 18th century. The Water shaft Anna connects the Vojtech Mine to the Anna Mine.

And something of interest to end on? The Pribram Mining Museum is one of the largest museums of its kind anywhere in Europe!
