Czech Bread Dumplings in a Cup

Czech name: Hrnkové knedlíky

Written by Michaela Bilkova

Dumplings are typical for the Czech Republic. People learn most of the dumpling recipes  from their grandmothers.  You can serve this kind of dumpling with different sauces or with sauerkraut as a side dish (e.g. Roast Pork with Dumplings and Sauerkraut, Pork Goulash, Roast Marinated Beef Sirloin with Cream Gravy). This recipe is one of the easiest.

Ingredients

3 dry hot dog buns or 3 dry white bread slices
2 eggs
1 cup Wondra instant flour
1 cup milk
salt to taste
oil or butter

Instructions

Cut the buns or bread into small pieces and separate the yolks and whites. Put the milk into a bowl, add yolks and salt to taste. Mix them. T

Then, add the flour and the buns or the bread. Beat the egg whites until stiff and add them to the mixture.  Fold all together.

Prepare four 8 oz cups and grease them with oil or butter and then put the dough into the cups filling only 3/4 (not to the top).

Prepare a small roasting pan with one inch of water and put the cups inside. Cover it with a lid and when it starts to boil, boil it for exactly 33 minutes and remove the cups.

Let the cups sit for 4 minutes, run the knife around the dumpling and turn the cup over.  Then cut the dumplings into slices and serve.
