Czech style fried breaded meat patties are a main dish. In the Czech Republic they are eaten for lunch or dinner. They are made of ground meat. It can be pork or beef, I personally prefer half-and-half. The patties are usually served with boiled or mashed potatoes and a vegetable. They are also good cold with bread.
1/2 lb ground pork and 1/2 lb ground beef
1 onion
1 lb potatoes
2 crushed garlic cloves
1 egg
salt and ground black pepper to taste
1 cup plain bread crumbs for coating
oil or lard for frying
Mix all the ingredients together. Except salt and pepper you can also add Marjoram or Caraway Seeds to taste. Then shape the mixture into patties and bread on both sides. One pound of meat makes 7 to 10 patties. Fry patties in hot oil on both sides until golden brown. Serve fried patties with boiled or mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable.
