The Easter holidays are connected to many traditional dishes which are usually made on White Saturday for example Czech Easter Bread. Easter Sunday is the peak of the celebration. Easter Monday is full of egg dishes, as they symbolize the rebirth of Jesus. Czech Easter bread is kind of a sweet bread which is just amazing with a bit of sugar or jam on top of it and it is mostly eaten as a traditional dish during Easter Holiday but sometimes can be bought even during the year.
1/2 lb flour
14 Tbs melted butter
12 Tbs sugar
4 yolks
2 cubes fresh yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
a pinch of salt
5 Tbs sliced almonds
5 Tbs raisins
almonds for sprinkling
Make the yeast mixture from one half of the lukewarm milk, one teaspoon of sugar, and crumbled yeast.
In a separate bowl, beat the butter with sugar, egg yolks, vanilla, lemon peel and add a pinch of salt. Slowly add the leavened yeast mixture and the rest of the milk. By bits start adding flour, almonds, and raisins. Knead the dough with a spoon until bubbles are made. Cover the mixture with a dishtowel, place on a warm place and let it rise for 1 hour. Shape a loaf, place it on a baking sheet, and brush it with whisked egg and sprinkle it with sliced almonds. Bake at 355F for about 10 minutes, then lower the temperature to 210F and bake for another 30 minutes.
