Ingredients

3/4 lb ground beef
2 Tbs olive oil
5 cloves garlic
1 onion cut in wedges
2 chili peppers cut in strips
1 red bell pepper cut in strips
1 6oz can of tomato paste
1 14oz can of tomato sauce
sea salt
1 Tbs sugar
1/2 lb grated Ermentaler or Mozzarella cheese
8 slices rye bread
1 cup oil for frying

Instructions

First, warm up the olive oil in a pan and cook the onion, chili peppers, and red bell pepper for approximately 5 minutes. Next, add the ground beef and cook an additional 5 minutes, stirring constantly. As a next step, mix the tomato paste and tomato sauce into the pan, cover, and cook for 20 minutes until the mix becomes thicker.

Now, we have to prepare ourselves another frying pan and the slices of bread. Heat up oil in the second frying pan and put in slices of bread one by one, until they turn golden brown. When all of our bread slices are toasted, salt them and rub them with a garlic clove. It is totally your choice if you would like to salt and rub the bread slices on both of the sides or just on one side. The meat mix should become thicker very soon. When it is done and ready, salt and sweeten it to taste, and set aside. Finally, press two slices of garlic and mix them into the meat mixture. After that, wait for the meat mix to cool down. The very last part is to put some meat mix on the bread, sprinkle with grated cheese and serve. Enjoy!
