Smazeny syr is a Czech cheese-based dish, widely spread in Czech Republic. Fried cheese, served with tartar sauce and side salad. A slice of cheese and about 1 inch in thickness, is breaded with flour, egg and bread crumbs and fried either in a pan or in a deep fryer. It is often served with a side salad, potatoes (fries or boiled potatoes), and typically with tartar sauce (or mayonnaise). In Czech fast food outlets, it can be also prepared in the form of a sandwich (i.e., between two slices of bread, usually something similar to a hamburger bun). The usual complement is tartar sauce. The dish may also be prepared with a thin slice of ham sandwiched between two slices of cheese.
